GREYHOUNDS ON SHOW

SPECIAL EVENT FOR SPECIAL DOGS

Show Day

Show Day - Rosewood Showgrounds as part of the Rosewood Ag Show - 1st July 2023.

This day is essentially a fun day for the Racing Greyhounds, their Owners/Trainers.

It is essential that we provide the correct image to the public who will probably ask you a lot of questions.

Remember that our image is vastly important, we and the greyhounds are on show to everyone.

It is our job to promote the Greyhound Racing Industry and impress the public with the condition of our Greyhounds and the responsible ownership and training that they require and receive and encourage involvement.  Display our concern, responsibilities and commitment to Animal Welfare.

We also promote GAPQ for retired greyhounds.

What will happen on the day ?

You will be met on entry and given your kit, which will include your Exhibitor Numbers, and some complimentary gifts.  You will be directed to our kennelling area where the QRIC Steward will check earbrands, microchips etc.

Someone will be available in the Racing Greyhound Kennelling area all day to assist with any questions and to inform you on what is happening.  If you require a handler, we will see if we can provide someone for you.

Specific Classes of Greyhounds will be called to the Assembly Area at approximately 10.45am, to be readied for showing at 11am.

We have a team of volunteers who will assist with the event and they are:

  • Representatives from Racing Queensland
  • John Brasch - Announcer & banters with ISS Representative during the judging on PA
  • Tony Zammit - A real crowd pleaser and information at the ready for questions from the audience.
  • Ring Steward to steer you all in the right direction.
  • Sam Bloomfield - Wealth of information about what do to in the showring
  • Rick O'Donnell - Photographer
  • Di O'Donnell - Recorder of Results
  • Any sponsor that comes on board.

Ready to Show

Your greyhound's exhibit number will be called to the assembly area prior to your class being judged. The Ring Steward will call you to line up ready to enter the ring.

When the Judge is ready, your class will enter the ring together. When you arrive at the Judge, unless he/she otherwise indicates you will stand your dog.

The Judge will then start with the first dog and go over the dog beginning with the mouth and gradually working his/her way to the tail, feeling every inch of the body.  At this stage the Judge may ask you the age of the dog.

The Judge will then ask you to gait the dog in a triangle. He/she needs to see the hind movement, the side movement and the front movement. We do not have a great area to do this, so do the best you can with what we have. You don't have be be perfect, have a bit of fun if things don't go right. The judge does not expect perfection. Playful pups are particularly entertaining.

After he/she has inspected all the dogs in the class and seen them gait, you will then be expected to present them standing at their best (if possible).

The Judge may ask for particular dogs to be gaited again so that he/she can make the final decisions.

Once the Judge has made his/her decision, the dogs will be placed in finish order and presented with their appropriate rewards (trophy & sash or sash only for 2nd & 3rd). Photos will be taken of 1st, 2nd & 3rd with the judge after each class, so don't go wandering off.

Don't forget, if you are a winner, you will have to go into the ring later on to compete for Best Dog/Bitch.
